My Craft Space

For years I've wanted my very own craft room.  Anyone who likes to make things can relate.  The supplies pile up and it's nice to have a designated place to put them and a place to spread out and work.  For the first ten years of my crafting adventure, my space was in the corner of my bedroom and then after that in the basement.  That all changed five years ago when we remodeled our basement and put a bedroom down there for my oldest son Ben.  Then we moved Zachary, my littlest, into Ben's room which meant I could have Zachary's room as a crafting space.  It's a small space, eight by ten feet, but it works for me.

Here are some photos of my space.  The walls are a light green for now, the color I'd chosen for Zachary's nursery.  At some point I want to paint the space a light cream to match my master bedroom which is connected to this room by a long hallway which is also painted cream.  It would be nice if all three rooms blended together since they take up the entire top floor of the house.

This first photo is shows my desk area.  The desk is Better Homes and Gardens and I found it at Walmart at a huge discount.  It had been on the sales floor forever and they were trying to get rid of it.  I walked into the store at the right time that day.

The armoire to the right of the desk was actually my mother's childhood dresser.  It was originally a dark stained cherry wood, but pretty scratched up so I painted it black.  I would have preferred white to match the desk, but didn't feel like doing multiple coats.  Painting furniture is my least favorite activity.  The piece holds my cardstock and patterned papers perfectly.  The small drawers are 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" square and the door opens to reveal all my patterned paper which is stored in 12" x 12" plastic drawers.  To say it's a perfect storage unit would be an understatement.

To the left of the desk is a table I found at a second hand store and painted that black to match the armoire. It's the perfect spot for my computer's printer.  I love having the desk in front of the window, my view is trees, trees and more trees.  We live on a hill surrounded by trees and mountains and it's lovely, especially in the fall when the leaves have started to change.

This photo above shows were I store all my stickers, alphabets stickers, small embellishments and ribbon.  I purchased the green baskets at Lowes about five years ago and the large glass jar that holds my ribbon I found at Walmart.  The square baskets are the perfect size for Thickers.

This tall bookcase in the photo below holds all my scrapbook albums and as you can see I'm clearly running out of room.  The shelves are sagging so I need to figure out something for future albums because I can't fit one more on this shelf!  The bookcase to the left of the shelf holds all my clear stamps, ink pads, favorite magazines, books and other small embellishments.

My room works well for me, although I would really like a countertop height table I could stand at to do certain things, like iron and cut fabric, but there's simply not enough room in this space to add one.  Maybe someday when the kiddos are all on their own, I'll move into one of their big bedrooms.  ;)

Thanks for looking.  If you have any questions about any storage you see here, don't hesitate to ask.
